Electric Overhead Travelling Crane Operation Training

This one-day course provides participants with comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the safe operation of overhead travelling cranes. Delivered by experienced LEEA-accredited trainers and enriched with real-world insights from our team of active industry professionals, the course covers essential operational procedures, safety regulations, and best practices to ensure efficient and compliant crane use. Training course participants will develop the confidence and competence to operate overhead cranes safely while adhering to legal and industry standards.


Course Information

    • Ensure LOLER Compliance: Meet the requirements of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) by ensuring all lifting operations are carried out safely and that equipment is fit for use.

    • Demonstrate Competence: Acquire the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to support competency in the operation of overhead cranes, in accordance with legal requirements.

    • Promote a Safer Workplace: Support your legal duty as an employer by implementing safe systems of work and ensuring that personnel involved with lifting operations are properly trained and qualified.

    • Crane Operators: Gain formal training and certification to improve skills and knowledge, enabling safe, efficient operation of electric overhead cranes. Learn crane mechanics, controls, and emergency procedures to reduce accident risks.

    • Site Supervisors and Managers: Oversee crane operations, ensuring compliance with safety laws and best practices. Learn to manage risks, coordinate training, and maintain a safe, productive work environment.

    • Maintenance and Inspection Personnel: Understand crane operation to support effective maintenance and inspections, helping identify faults early and ensuring compliance with safety standards to reduce downtime.

    • Health and Safety Officers: Identify hazards, assess risks, and enforce safety policies related to crane use. Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and other regulations to protect workers and prevent incidents.

  • Criteria Covered

    • Introduction to EOTX crane types, key components, and operating systems

    • Legal responsibilities under LOLER, PUWER, and relevant UK regulations

    • Safe slinging methods and lifting techniques

    • Standard crane signals and effective communication practices

    • Operating procedures for lifting, moving, and positioning loads

    • Identification and avoidance of common hazards

    • Practical, hands-on crane operation and competency assessment

  • Each participant must pass a theory assessment to demonstrate a solid understanding of the course content.

    Additionally, each course participant must complete a practical assessment of a lifting operation.

  • There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

  • Contact Hours Inclusive of Breaks: 7

    Total Days: 1

    Course Timing: 9am - 4pm (End times can vary depending on course participant numbers and experience)

    Arrival Time: Course participants should arrive at 8.45am prompt.

  • Please ensure you wear safety boots when attending this training course.

    For those attending training at the Certex Training Academy, all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided. However, you are welcome to bring your own PPE if you prefer.

    If the training is being conducted at your company's site, please consult your employer regarding the specific PPE requirements in accordance with your company's site safety policy.

    Each participant is required to produce photographic ID on the first day of the course. Failure to do so will result in the participant being unable to participate.
