Frequently Asked Questions

  • HSE provides guidance on what is meant by competency, stating that:

    "Competence can be described as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely."

    They stipulate that a competent person must undertake the necessary training to help acquire and maintain satisfactory competency levels.

    This course alone will not deem your employee competent but can be used in conjunction with experience, skills and knowledge to demonstrate overall theoretical and practical competence which can assist you as an Employer to address legal requirements, by contributing to your own assessment of your employee's potential competency.

  • For courses that run over full days lunch will be provided if you are attending a Certex Training Academy.

    Special dietary requirements can be catered for unless you are registering onto the course less than 8 days in advance of the course start date.

  • Safety boots are required for the majority of our course held on Certex sites. Any other PPE will be provided. See the “What you need to bring” section for further information.

    For courses held on customer premises please speak to your course organiser.

  • It is viable for any training course that we offer to be delivered on your own company premises, including premises based overseas, subject to your site being approved by our Training Team.

    When you request a quotation for on-site training, please provide the address you wish us to attend to deliver the training and we will send you an on-site pack for completion alongside your quotation.

    Included in this pack will be a required equipment and facilities list, specific to your requested training course, and a Client Site Safety Declaration which will need to completed by an appropriate person, before being signed and returned to us.

    Upon receipt, our Trainer will assess, based upon your provided information, if your site is suitable for us to deliver the training on location. Subject to approval, your training course can then be secured.

    Please Note: It is essential that you nominate an appropriate person to perform an accurate assessment of your site facilities and equipment before signing and returning the Client Site Safety Declaration form to yourself, to return to us. As once our Trainer arrives on -site, if during their pre-course checks they find any equipment or environment to be unsuitable or unsafe, the training session will be halted on safety grounds.

  • Subject to your site being approved as suitable for on-site delivery of your requested training, Certex Training Academy Trainer’s can travel overseas to deliver training.

    Please provide the full proposed training site address, including country, when requesting a quotation for training and we will be happy to advise if we are able to attend your location.

  • What is the CITB Employer Networks Scheme?

    Employer Networks are an initiative set up and funded by CITB aiming to simplify the way you get the support and funding you need to access the training you want and upskill your workforce.

    It will save you 70% off the cost of your training with Certex if eligible.

    Who Can Benefit from this?

    Are you CITB levy-registered employer in the Construction Industry?

    You could claim training funding annually to upskill your workforce, with no restriction on the size of applicable businesses - small contractors and large employers can benefit.

    Is There a Cost to Join?

    Employer Networks are free to join for any levy-registered employer.

    What Type of Training Does the Funding Cover?

    The funding covers every type of training that Certex offer:

    -In Person at a Training Academy

    -In Person on your own company premises

    -e-learning online

    How Do I Access the Funding?

    To book all you need to do is contact your local Employer Network with details of the training you want and the dates you would like. They will check you are eligible and then liaise with Certex to arrange your training. Once confirmed, they will then ask Certex to contact you to take an upfront payment of 30% of the total training cost. From this point onwards, you will then receive all communications from the Certex Training Team who will assist you to get your personnel registered onto the training dates required and issue your team with joining instructions and if successful in passing their training assessments, certifications.

  • Certex Training Academy accepts the following payment methods:

  • Yes you can! However, please note that if you do not have an account with Certex, the invoice we issue will be a Proforma Invoice which you will be required to pay either by:

    -BACs

    -PayPal

    -By Credit or Debit card over the telephone (Excluding AMEX).

    Until payment is made your booking is not secured and will be cancelled if payment is not made within 7 days of us issuing your Proforma.

    Please Note: To ensure the correct person receives payment receipts please make sure that on page two of the online booking form, in the section titled ‘Order Contact’ that you enter the name and email address of the person who is organising the training rather than the person who is attending the training.

    When you reach the checkout section, please select the payment method invoice. The ‘Order Contact’ will then receive an email containing the invoice within 1 business day (excludes weekends and UK bank holidays)

  • Yes, at Certex Training Academy we want to make sure you are happy that a training course will meet your requirements. Click the orange button to download a PDF containing information all about this specific training course, including an outline of the course content, training aim and training objectives.

    Need more technical advice? No problem, we are here to help! Please contact us and request a Trainer Call-back. Please include your mobile and landline numbers and give a brief outline of your query so that when our Trainer calls you, they have any required information ready for you.

    Please Note: Our Trainers are busy training most days, so call-backs will normally be between the hours of Mon-Fri 4-5pm. We try to respond to all your enquiries within 48 hours but please bear with us during busy periods.

  • Once course participants successfully complete a LEEA training course at Certex, we aim to issue LEEA certifications to the Course Organiser within 14 business days (excludes weekends and UK bank holidays).

    If individual course participants require a copy of their certification, we advise contacting your internal training team or course organiser for assistance.

    All LEEA certificates are supplied as PDF digital files and are valid for three years.

  • If a company has booked the training course for their employees and the company order contact also wishes to receive a copy of the instructions, this can be facilitated by asking their selected course participants to add the company order contact’s name and the company order contact’s email address into the online registration form, in the ‘Order Contact’ section located on Page Two of the registration form.  

    Certex recommends this for all company order contacts, as this can assist customers to monitor the registrations and to be aware of who may not have registered. This can help avoid issues associated with late or non-registration.

  • Course joining instructions are automatically generated and issued by the Certex Training Academy Portal once a training course has been booked, paid for, and an online registration onto the training course date has been completed by each course participant.

  • Course participants will be required to achieve full attendance to be eligible for sitting the exams on the final day of the course.

    Training finish times may vary dependant on participant numbers, experience and ability of participants. We are unable to commit to early finish times and participants should not book travel based on any finish time other than that advised in the course joining instructions. Certex Training Academy advises all course participants to allow ample time if travelling to our Academies, we do not accept liability or costs for any missed travel connections.

  • If a course participant is unable to attend the course on the course start date, for whatever reason, 100% of the course cost will be forfeited and rescheduling is not permitted.

    Course participants are requested to arrive at the Training Academy or on-site training location no later than 8.45am. If travelling, we strongly advise arriving the day before the training course start date to prevent traffic/travel related issues occurring. Training begins at 9am prompt. We can be contacted on 01302 756761 if you wish to notify us of any delays. Any course participant arriving on or after 9.30am will strictly not be permitted to participate in the training. course due to missing essential content. 100% of the course cost will be forfeited and rescheduling will not be permitted.

  • Certification will not be issued unless the training course assessments has been passed. In the case of LEEA Certificates, these will be issued to the company training contact not the course participant, within 14 business days after the training has been successfully completed.

    In the rare event that you wish to challenge an assessment result; you should make an appeal in writing to the Harworth Training Manager at training@certex.co.uk. Please title your email ‘Assessment Result Appeal Request.’

    Following receipt of your request, an independent re-assessment will be conducted.

    If the independent re-assessment upholds the original assessment result, the person appealing will be advised accordingly.

    If the independent assessor reaches the conclusion that the participant should be awarded a higher grade, the person appealing will be advised in writing and an official complaint raised internally so that the incident can be fully investigated. Additionally, if the independent assessor awards the participant a ‘pass’ where previously the participant had failed, electronic training records will be updated to reflect the new grade, and a certificate will be generated and issued accordingly.
