Harness and Lanyard Inspection Training

This half-day course provides participants with the essential theoretical and practical knowledge to carry out pre-use and interim inspections of safety harnesses and lanyards in accordance with PUWER and the Work at Height Regulations. Delivered by experienced, LEEA-accredited trainers and supported by real-world inspection insight, the course covers how to identify common defects and signs of damage, assess equipment condition and suitability for continued use, and apply the correct discard criteria to ensure ongoing safety and compliance in the workplace.

Ensure Compliance with PUWER: Meet the legal requirements by ensuring that height safety equipment is suitable, maintained, and inspected to support height safety.
Demonstrate Competence: Acquire the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to support competency in conducting pre use inspections of height safety equipment, in accordance with legal requirements.
Promote a Safer Workplace: Fulfil your duty as an employer by implementing safe systems of work and ensuring that all personnel conducting inspections of height safety equipment are properly trained and qualified.

Height Safety Equipment Users: Learn how to identify risks and defects, and carry out effective pre-use inspections to ensure equipment safety.
Site Managers: Enhance awareness of legal responsibilities, safety obligations, and risk management related to height safety.
Procurement Personnel: Develop knowledge of the different types of height safety equipment to support informed and compliant purchasing decisions.
Sales Professionals: Improve understanding of height safety equipment and key benefits to better support client needs and sales conversations.

Demonstrate Regulatory Knowledge: Understand and apply relevant legislation and regulations governing working at height equipment.
Understand Key Responsibilities: Identify and explain the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in the use of height safety equipment.
Recognise Equipment Types: Develop knowledge of various type of height safety equipment and their intended applications.
Apply Correct Terminology: Accurately interpret and use terminology and definitions associated with height safety equipment.
Understand Safe Working Practices: Understand the control measures established by legislation to ensure the ongoing safety and integrity of height safety equipment.
Working at Height Awareness: Understand the risks involved with working at height and how safety equipment mitigates those risks.
Conduct Pre-Use Inspections: Perform effective pre-use and post-use inspections to identify wear, damage, and compliance issues.
Identify Defects: Recognise common defects in height safety equipment.
Attachment Techniques: Understand procedures for attaching lanyards and securing harnesses to anchor points.
Harness Fitting: Learn proper harness fitting for both safety and comfort.
Medical Considerations: To raise awareness of potential medical problems related to suspension trauma and other risks when using fall protection equipment.
Rescue Planning: To promote the planning and implementation of suitable rescue plans as part of an overall fall protection strategy.

Each participant must pass a theory assessment to demonstrate a solid understanding of the course content.
They must also successfully carry out pre use inspections on multiple items of height safety equipment.

There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

Contact Hours Inclusive of Breaks: 4

Timing: Courses can be scheduled for 9am - 1pm or 12:30pm to 4:30pm
Arrival Time: Course participants should arrive at 8.45am prompt.

For those attending training at the Certex Training Academy, all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided. However, you are welcome to bring your own PPE if you prefer.
