Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) Examination Training

This two-day course provides participants with the theoretical and practical skills to carry out thorough examinations of Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) in accordance with PUWER, LOLER and the Working at Height Regulations. Delivered by experienced LEEA-accredited trainers and backed by real world insight from our active inspection engineers, it combines essential theory with hands-on practical training to equip training course participants with the skills needed to assess equipment condition, identify defects, and apply relevant discard criteria in line with industry standards and legal requirements.


Course Information

    • Ensure Compliance with the Work at Height Regulations: Meet the legal requirements by ensuring that all personal fall protection equipment (PFPE) is suitable, maintained, and inspected to support safe work at height.

    • Ensure LOLER and PUWER Compliance: Comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) by ensuring that all work equipment, including fall protection systems where applicable, is safe, properly maintained, and regularly inspected.

    • Demonstrate Competence: Acquire the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to support competency in conducting thorough examinations and pre-use inspections, in accordance with legal requirements.

    • Promote a Safer Workplace: Fulfil your duty as an employer by implementing safe systems of work at height and ensuring that all personnel using fall protection equipment are properly trained and qualified.

    • PFPE Inspectors: Gain a clear understanding of the requirements and procedures for conducting thorough examinations in line with UK legislation.

    • PFPE Users: Learn how to identify risks and defects, and carry out effective pre-use inspections to ensure equipment safety.

    • Site Managers: Enhance awareness of legal responsibilities, safety obligations, and risk management related to working at height.

    • Procurement Personnel: Develop knowledge of the different types of PFPE to support informed and compliant purchasing decisions.

    • Sales Professionals: Improve understanding of PFPE and key benefits to better support client needs and sales conversations.

    • Demonstrate Regulatory Knowledge: Understand and apply relevant legislation and regulations governing PFPE.

    • Understand Key Responsibilities: Identify and explain the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in the examination of PFPE.

    • Recognise Equipment Types: Develop knowledge of various type of PFPE and their intended applications.

    • Apply Correct Terminology: Accurately interpret and use terminology and definitions associated with PFPE and examinations.

    • Understand Working at Height Practices: Understand the control measures established by legislation to ensure the ongoing safety and integrity of PFPE.

    • Conduct Pre-Use Inspections: Perform effective pre-use inspections to identify obvious defects or issues before operation.

    • Carry Out Thorough Examinations: Conduct Thorough Examinations on a range of PFPE in line with current standards and best practices.

    • Identify and Report Defects: Recognise common defects in PFPE and follow correct reporting procedures.

    • Complete Documentation: Accurately complete reports of thorough examination and any required supporting documentation.

    Course Content

  • Each participant must pass a theory assessment to demonstrate a solid understanding of the course content.

    They must also successfully carry out thorough examinations on multiple items of equipment and complete detailed inspection reports based on their findings.

  • There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

  • Contact Hours Inclusive of Breaks: 14

    Course Timing: 9am - 4pm (End times can vary depending on course participant numbers and experience)

    Arrival Time: Course participants should arrive at 8.45am prompt.

  • Please ensure you wear safety boots when attending this training course.

    For those attending training at the Certex Training Academy, all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided. However, you are welcome to bring your own PPE if you prefer.

    If the training is being conducted at your company's site, please consult your employer regarding the specific PPE requirements in accordance with your company's site safety policy.

    Each participant is required to produce photographic ID on the first day of the course. Failure to do so will result in the participant being unable to participate.

    Please attend this training course wearing safety boots.

    All other PPE will be provided however you are welcome to bring your own if preferred.
